The drain is ok; the attachments: not so good

I was hoping this drain would be a great replacement for my previous dish rack--a design by Michael Graves that for some reason is no longer available. This one seemed to fit the bill with drain spouts where they could possibly be of some help plus holders for mugs, utensils and glasses to boot. The result: The drain is okay but the attachments are pretty horrid. They do not fit firmly in place and I would fear for anyone who puts glasses on the holder because it is an accident waiting to happen. Ditto for the utensil holder which I ended up having to move to the side so that it would be seated more firmly. The mug holders are probably fine but I don't use them. Sharp plastic corners, too! I was wiping up under the drain and my finger was cut by a sharp edge on the tray. I'm not enthralled with this. I gave it 3 stars simply because I haven't returned it (I've been using it too long) but it probably deserves only 2 ** I'll happily replace it when I find something that works better.

Does It's Job

Works well for drainage of wet dishes. The drip pan underneath needs to be cleaned periodically, and hard water leaves deposits that goop up. But it is very easy to clean. It needs an extra bar on the back side, as some dishes often slip through the slats with nothing to hold them back. Side cup holders also work well for drying flexible cutting boards or small cutting boards.

The Worst

I don't even know where to start. As always Amazon is great but.... It gets one star for being metal after that it goes down hill. The box came and it had the look of something opened and reclosed. The instructions are on the front of the box in the form of a picture schematic with no close ups of how to attach the silverware and cup holders. I dumped it out and got on line for some pictures to see how it is suppose to look. I finally get the main rack together and the bottom rack is now somewhat spring loaded to half way flipped up and won't stay in the down position unless you put something in it or hold it down.
Now the best part is the cup holder just hangs on the side of the rack, metal to metal, and does not fasten in any way. It slides back and forth tilting as it does. The bottom mat that catches the water dripping isn't even wide enough to catch dripping water from the cups on the cup rack. I guess I should dry them before I put them on the rack (huh?). The utensil holder has a horizontal groove to clip on to WHAT??? The sides are at 45 dgrees after it is assembled.
After all these years of shopping on Amazon I have to say this is the worst thing I have ever purchased and I can't believe it's even sold on here. I'm not going through the hassle of sending it back so I guess I'll use American ingenuity on it in the form of zip ties and 550 cord to bring it up to usefulness. If you're thinking of buying this don't just invest in paper plates instead.
